Making Democracy Work

About the LWVCA

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. We influence public policy through education and advocacy. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate.

Our Mission

The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles:

Voter Services & Citizen Education: We present unbiased non-partisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues.

Action & Advocacy: We are also non-partisan, but, after study, we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest.

The League of Women Voters, a membership organization, conducts action and advocacy and is a non-profit 501(c)(4) corporation.

To conduct our voter services and citizen education activities, we use funds from the League of Women Voters of the United States Education Fund, which is a 501(c)(3) corporation, a non-profit educational organization.

Our Values and Principles guide our activities.

Our Work in the Tri-County Area

The League works on a variety of issues throughout the year; our action priorities are established at our annual meetings. We also conduct studies that may lead us to take a position on policy issues affecting the Charleston area, South Carolina, and our nation as a whole.
