2018 Calendar for Elections and Forums for Candidates

Forums will be scheduled for many races near the election dates. Forums are free and open to the public.

BRIEF ELECTION RULES To vote in a South Carolina election, the registration deadline is 30 days before that election. (Mail in forms must be postmarked by that date.)

To register to vote or change your registration address, go to LWV's Voter Information Center or to the SC Election Commission or any S.C. DMV office.

Polls are open on election days from 7 am until 7 pm.

Offices on Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester County ballots in 2018 include: Governor; Secretary of State; State Treasurer; Attorney General; Comptroller General; State Superintendent of Education; Commissioner of Agriculture; U.S. House of Representatives; State House of Representatives; Multi-county district offices; Solicitor (circuits 3, 5, 6, 12, 13, 15); various countywide and less than countywide offices. Statewide & local partisan Statewide Primary Election. Last day to register: May 12. June 26 Runoff, if needed Notes Lieutenant Governor: The S.C. Constitution was amended in 2014 to require Governor and Lieutenant Governor to run on a joint ticket in the General Election. As of February 1, 2018, the General Assembly had not yet amended state law to provide rules for how Lieutenant Governor candidates will file for office. This calendar will be updated to reflect those rules once established.

Adjutant General: The State Constitution was amended in 2015 to provide for appointment of the Adjutant General by the Governor with advice and consent of the State Senate. Adjutant General is no longer an elected office.
