Volunteer with the League

  • The Education Director is looking for a member to volunteer to attend Charleston County School Board meetings and report back to keep other League members up-to-date. Interested? Contact Jane.

  • Michele Turner is looking for members to join her health care team. You could choose from the following tasks:
    1) Collect local news articles and meeting notices re:health care topics,
    2) Attend membership meetings of health care coalition members (Smoke-Free Action Network, New Morning Foundation, Planned Parenthood...)
    3) Receive SC legislative updates re:health care topics

Communication for the health care committee is via e-mail & phone, with occasional in-person meet-ups. Contact Michele if you are interested.

  • The Voters Service team is always busy registering voters and planning candidate forums, and wants to continue to expand opportunities for education youth on the political process. Joan, Evelyn, and Earl always welcome committee members. If you're interested, email a completed "Voters Service Committee Form" to Joan Dehne.

Current Voters Service opportunities for all members to volunteer for: Last spring we registered hundreds of high-schoolers to vote. We'd like to do it again, but we need members to volunteer for a shift at one (or more!) of 17 area high schools. Contact Joan Dehne if you want to help introduce our local youth to the democratic process!

  • POSITION OPENING ON BOARD OF DIRECTORS: We're currently looking for a new Criminal Justice Director. Among other things, the director would help guide our efforts in this year's judicial independence project. If you may be interested and would like to hear more about the position, please contact Julie

  • Do you have graphics design knowledge? We'd love to have a new simple-but-eye-catching banner for our e-newsletters. Email Shayna, our webmaster, if you have ideas or the capability to help us design one.

  • The membership committee, headed by Mary Horres, is looking for current members who are willing to meet individually with new members, on an as-needed basis, to orient them to the LWV and provide a personal contact for our local league. (Printed orientation material will be supplied to you.) We'd also love for "seasoned" members to volunteer to accompany new members to their first meeting. Interested? Email Mary.
